Walk in the Tuilerie garden at dusk

I would describe “The Jardin des Tuileries” as my oasis in Paris. Close to home, it is the park where the family goes for a stroll on weekends. It is built on a former quarry for clay used to make tiles and it is after this that it is named (tuilerie in French). The large park and garden extends from the front of the the Louvre on the eastern edge to the Place de la Concorde on west.
As the name suggests, the Jardin des Tuileries was a garden before it became a public park. The garden belonged to the Tuileries Palace described below and now forms part of the Axe historique (historical axis) of Paris which is also sometimes called the Voie Triomphale (triumphal way). It was designed by Andre Le Notre in 1664. The current layout faithfully retains this design.
